| ST. LOUIS -- Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez, dealing with a painful hairline fracture in his ribs, was a last-minute addition to Friday night's lineup in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Thursday he expected Ramirez to play, but Nick Punto was in the team's original lineup, playing shortstop and batting eighth. The Dodgers then released a new lineup 30 minutes before game time with Ramirez batting fourth.
Ramirez was not on the field when the Dodgers were taking batting practice, but he emerged later to stretch and jog in the outfield. Ramirez has two bloop hits in 12 at-bats in the NLCS. He has struck out five times and has yet to dive for a ball at shortstop.
However, he was 8-for-16 with six extra-base hits and six RBIs in the NLDS against the Atlanta Braves. He was struck in the ribs with a 95 mph Joe Kelly fastball in Game 1 of the NLCS and has been in and out of the lineup this round.
Punto started Game 2 of the NLCS and has entered as an injury replacement in two games. He was picked off second base to kill a Dodgers rally in Game 4. Center fielder Andre Ethier, who has been playing with an ankle injury, was in the starting lineup.
Jon Jay, slumping at the field and at the plate, was not in the Cardinals' batting order as Shane Robinson got his first start of the postseason, batting seventh and playing center field.
